Final Reflection

Final Reflection

WOW! What a journey I have been on for the past 8 weeks. I am filled with a little sadness that this course is over. Just knowing that my week would be spent learning and creating was a wonderful feeling. Now, we are all on a voyage that has more boxes of information. I am excited to say that by taking this course I have decided to become a teacher. It has changed me that much! The Blog's, Wiki's, Ning's, Jing's, Podcast's, Photo Share have all been a joy learning about. I am so glad that I took this course and have the tools now to better express myself in the world. To see my final portfolio and all the work I have created is an accomplishment to me. I was thinking to myself and wondered when was the last time I “Completed” something in my life. This would be the first in a long time! I made it through this course with my head held high! This means a lot to me. This was a stepping stone to me for my self-confidence and self-esteem. I have had quite a few disappointments over the last few years, so for me this is a life changing experience. I want to give my thanks to Todd, Ruth and Thatcher. You all were great help to me. You all deserve an A+ for your enthusiasm and willingness to help. I attribute my success to you all! Thanks again and thanks to everyone in the class for all your creativity and information!

Photo Sharing My Best Friend

Photo Sharing Friendships
A Classroom Adventure

My classroom adventure would delve into the many facets of friendship. Together as a class we are going to introduce our “Best Friend”, with the use of photo sharing to help demonstrate this friendship. This activity will be two-sided. First, we will share through the written word just what our best friend mean to us in our life. The second, photo's sharing our journey with one another. This activity will be solely for the individual to delve into the friendship that means the most to them. Lets start a conversation with ourselves as to “why” this relationship has become what it is today. Every student will make a portfolio that will be given to the “best friend” at the end of the semester. We will see through this assignment how this relationship has molded us as a friend and a human being.

My best friend is Rene Vallejo. We have known one another for over 20 years. We were introduced to each other through Rene's sister, Sabrina. Rene is the eternal optimist. He is a ray of sunshine! Everyone he meets is transformed by his kindness and love. Rene took me to my first Grateful Dead concert way back in 1989. This event changed my life. Over the years, all though we have lived in different states we have kept in touch and visited one another. He at times has been my source of console, a rock that has never changed. He reminded me everyday of the importance of love and understanding. The other trait I love in him is his belief in MAGIC! Everyday when we speak he tells me of wonderful things that happen to him. Not coincidences, but destiny. He reminds me of a simpler time in my life. He brings me back to my center a place of simplicity. I am a better person for having him in my life. Is there someone in your life that does the same for you. If your answer is yes, maybe it is time for you to let them know or to solute them as I have with Rene!

My Teaching Philosophy Revised

I am a student of life and a teacher to all I come in contact with. As a student, I am continuously working toward improving my life, my mind and my spirit.

I wondered how I was to do this assignment, not being a "teacher" with students, in a classroom arena. As I thought about it I realized, I am a teacher to all I come in contact with. I remember talking to friends who shared with me what all they had learned from me. I now understand my responsibilities and the role I play when it comes to my individual relationships. Knowing that the length of the relationship has no greater meaning than the content, I now take time to listen, and be a support. Looking at the relationships I considered to be important in my life, I found the meaning of who I am. Each has inspired me to grow, to ask questions and finally to reflect on the process that brought me to myself. I want to be the best teacher and student I can possibly be.

I remembered a time when I had finished a book about relationship therapy and within a couple of hours I received a call from a family member who was in crisis over something that had happened to her that morning. With the information I received from reading the book I was able to console her and set her on track to better understanding. The exercises I learned in the book such as breathing, releasing, and finally, visualizing a positive outcome helped her release her anger and be in a position to move on to better understanding. In turn, I also experienced a releasing moment knowing I had become not only a better student but a teacher. This for me was such a great experience and an experience that pushed me into higher learning.

As we live, we are confronted with many important decisions that keep us embedded in so many relationships. Knowing this, I decided to start a women s group, once a week, structured around the very premises of "teachers" and "students". One week, half would be the teachers and half students. Each group would talk about their experiences that week, their trials and liberating moments. The teachers would lead the group with questions centered around each topic. It was an amazing experience! We all were able to play each role knowing the impact we were having on one another. Some were not comfortable at first with the role play, but in time I saw the quiet, reserved women turn into confident, wise women, eager to share her experiences.

I am thankful for the knowledge I have gained through this experience of being a teacher. My philosophy has changed from having to be right all the time to learning to listen. I realized through this process that we all are more receptive to a safe, loving environment. Knowing this, I vow to always come from a place of compassion and understanding.

Now that this class has come to an end I am happy to say that I can teach others how to use the technology we have learned. It has been such an enlightening experience and am so very thankful! I have more confidence and will continue with my learning. I have also realized that Education is something I will continue with in the hopes of becoming a music teacher. Thanks for all the help and knowledge for it set me on a path to higher learning!
